Vintage Svend Aage Holm Sørensen “Fishing Pole” Floor Lamp, Denmark, circa 1955

A rare “Fishing Pole” floor lamp designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen for Holm Sørensen & Co., Denmark, circa 1955. The design is defined by its dramatic cantilevered construction, with a long tapered teak arm extending diagonally from a curved brass junction and suspending the light almost weightlessly from its tip.

The structure combines solid teak, brass and a black lacquered cast-iron base. The narrow two-pronged foot provides the counterweight for the extended arm while keeping the silhouette exceptionally light. Brass sleeves articulate the transitions between the wooden sections and the curved central support, giving the lamp a precise, almost architectural construction.

A pleated cream-colored plastic diffuser hangs from the end of the pole, forming a softly illuminated globe when lit. The contrast between the warm teak, aged brass, dark base and translucent shade is characteristic of Scandinavian lighting of the 1950s, while the pronounced asymmetry gives the design its distinctive identity.

The “Fishing Pole” is a documented model by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and was produced by Holm Sørensen & Co. during the mid-1950s. Period examples are recorded in teak, brass and blackened cast iron, with suspended diffusers in different configurations.

Carefully restored in-house at our gallery in Rabat, with the original structure and materials preserved wherever possible. The teak, brass and cast-iron elements retain minor traces consistent with age and use. The lamp has been inspected for functionality and is professionally packed for secure international delivery.
